Partnership of 5 Latino-serving organizations funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), of which PROCEED is the Northeast partner. The AVANZANDO program is a collaborative capacity building assistance program focusing on enhancing HIV prevention interventions in Latino and Latino-serving community-based organizations that provide HIV/AIDS services. AVANZANDO also supports validating the work of community by providing the tools and resources to enhance existing HIV prevention interventions. AVANZANDO partners include (LLEGO), PROCEED, Center for Health Policy Development (CHPD), Project Vida and NAF. AVANZANDO focuses on enhancing the ability of community-based organizations to replicate, adapt and implement HIV Prevention Interventions that are most applicable to the community being served.

- PEER MENTORING AND INDIVIDUALIZED CAPACITY BUILDING ASSISTANCE
Our team provides mentoring opportunities for program development and implementation and consultation in HIV/AIDS program design. Program Areas
include: Counseling and Testing Street and Community Outreach Prevention Case Management
- SKILLS BASED TRAINING
PROCEED staff and consultants provide interactive, culturally-relevant, skills-building trainings to enhance the knowledge, skills and practice. All curricula can be modified to reflect specific agency requirements, participants' level of knowledge and cultural/linguistic sensitivities.
- Basic Strategies to Conduct Effective Community & Street Outreach
This curriculum can be offered for interventions on HIV Prevention and AIDS Education or more specifically targeted for interventions on Substance Abuse or both. Presents the theory and techniques of outreach highlighting
its unique effectiveness as a large scale intervention, initiating a community needs assessment, community access and safety - building community trust/rapport, stimulating behavioral change, developing liaisons and collaborations and the necessity/benefits of documentation.
- Prevention Case Management (PCM) - Basic Curriculum Overview:
Presents the principles and methodologies of PCM including
its grounding in behavioral science theory, client recruitment and engagement in this particular intervention model, needs assessment, counseling skills, case analysis and the development of culturally-competent, client-centered prevention plans with the techniques of follow-up, referrals and eventual discharge.
- Prevention Marketing Initiative (Social Marketing)
The training is targeted to improve the effectiveness of HIV
prevention programs by utilizing effective marketing policies and techniques. Enhances agency ability to integrate community needs and aspirations with its goal of bringing life-saving educational messages and programs into the sphere of public health.
- INFORMATION TRANSFER
PROCEED's Resource Library houses curricula, resource information and HIV/AIDS information around prevention, treatment and "best practices." A new initiative focusing on prevention for HIV positive Latinos by reinforcing and affirming healthy living. The goal of this initiative is to work with practitioners, researchers, providers and consumers to develop and disseminate scientifically and culturally based prevention intervention models that can be replicated and adapted in Latino and Latino serving organizations. Program Components include the following:
- Research Team:
PROCEED INC is collaborating with researchers from Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute to review and develop curricula which addresses the needs of HIV positive Latinos.
- Community Advisory Workgroup:
HIV/AIDS service providers, consumers, government representatives, doctoral students and community leaders provide input and feedback on the needs of HIV positive Latinos and advises the Research Team on curriculum modules.
- Prevention with Positives Seminars/Conferences:
These forums provide the latest information on Prevention with Positives from key experts within the field. Current trends, promising practices, successful interventions and implementation of Prevention With Positives Programs are discussed.
- National Resource Network:
An information sharing listserv for disemminating timely updates on HIV prevention with positive individuals.
- Prevention Curriculum:
PROCEED will make available intervention models and curricula suitable for working with HIV positive Latinos. |
